General Curvilinear Ocean Model (GCOM): Enabling Thermodynamics

چکیده

General Curvilinear Ocean Model (GCOM) is a coastal ocean model curvilinear in 3 dimensions, developed by Carlos Torres et al. The model uses a direct numerical simulation (DNS) approach to solve the primitive Navier-Stokes equations and uses boundary fitted Curvilinear coordinates; therefore, it is possible to use GCOM in various topographies and meshes. GCOM is currently being coupled with heat and salinity conservation (or thermohaline dynamics) equations. GCOM is designed in a modular fashion, which will make it possible to easily add biogeochemical submodels to study different phenomenon, such as phytoplankton blooms, transport of pollution, or biogeochemical cycling. In a separate project an Atmosphere-Ocean Interaction model is developed, which will be coupled later to GCOM.

Global Change Observation Mission (GCOM)

ADEOSIIwas launched on Dec., 2002. However, after about 10 months operation, it has lost most of its power due to the solar paddle failure. As a follow on of ADEOSIImission, JAXA is now planning GCOM mission which is composed of a series of satellites. They are now called GCOM-W and GCOM-C satellites. Both satellites are composed of 3 satellites with 5 year lifetime. Hence, 13 years of continuo...

Modeling Global Sea Ice with a Thickness and Enthalpy Distribution Model in Generalized Curvilinear Coordinates

A parallel ocean and ice model (POIM) in generalized orthogonal curvilinear coordinates has been developed for global climate studies. The POIM couples the Parallel Ocean Program (POP) with a 12-category thickness and enthalpy distribution (TED) sea ice model. Although the POIM aims at modeling the global ocean and sea ice system, the focus of this study is on the presentation, implementation, ...

Numerical Grid Generation of Oceanic Model for the Andaman Sea

The study of the Andaman Sea can be studied by using the oceanic model; therefore the grid covering the study area should be generated. This research aims to generate grid covering the Andaman Sea, situated between longitudes 90◦E to 101◦E and latitudes 1◦N to 18◦N . A horizontal grid is an orthogonal curvilinear with 87 × 217 grid points. The methods used in this study are cubic spline and bil...

Observations of Cloud and Aerosol from Gcom-c Sgli

Observing cloud and aerosol distributions and their optical and microphysical properties are one of important activities for the global climate change study, since the role of these particles and their interactive responses to the climate system are still in mystery. The Second generation Global Imager (SGLI) aboard the GCOM-C satellite is a follow-on sensor of the Global Imager (GLI) aboard th...
